Cardinals Win The Pennant

Img_0704_1

One of the most dramatic finishes in League Championship Series history ended with Carlos the Cardinal Killer batting in front of a roaring crowd at Shea, bases loaded, two out, bottom of the ninth, Game 7. The Cardinals clinched the pennant when Adam Wainwright got Beltran looking on a curve on the outside corner, touching off this celebration scene. Below that are some more Powervids I took in the Cardinals' clubhouse, and now it's off to Detroit. Thanks for following along and participating in this MLBlog, and be sure to join me for the World Series Blog coming up shortly.

And a last look back at a spectacular Shea Stadium crowd in the following Powervid after the rain started to fall midway through the game. It was The Team, The Time, and The Game 7. It just wasn't theirs in 2006, but it was an incredible year for the Mets. They'll be back.

Mark,
Cardinals win! I'd just like to say that I predicted Cards in 7. Shouldn't that qualify me for WS tickets or something?? :)

And you still haven't answered my question about what kind of champagne the Cards use in the playoffs.

Cardinal fans missed be able to get it for the LCS, but perhaps when we win the World Series.

Thanks for your great coverage of the NLCS.

On to Detroit!

Great work, as usual, Mark! Thanks for all the 'insider' stuff!

Congratulations to the Cardinals!!

It was a great year for the Mets and they will be back!

Bottom line is that the Mets didn't execute when they needed to and the Cards did. Give credit to the Cardinals pitchers. I have no doubt that the Mets will be back- they have a strong young core of players to build around.

Tiff, good pick and the answer to your question was in the first sentence of the story I wrote from the Cardinals' clubhouse. Barefoot Bubbly, California Brute. Grabbed a cork for my collection.

Thanks, Cyn!

The Mets have an awesome team, they'll be the NL East champs again next year, no doubt.

What a ride it has been. Lots of good words about Yadi, Wainwright, Suppan . . . but what about LaRussa? From the last regular season game through last night's victory, his mgmt decisions have been superb. The Cards would not be going to the WS without him.

Thanks for the videos, what fun! Keep 'em coming! Go Cards!!!!!

All you Card fans enjoy it. Your team played better, and while the Mets will always be better than them, you can get beaten by Detroit instead of getting beaten by us.

And than next year you'll go into spring without Edmonds, Mulder, Suppan, and of course, talent. You'll be thinking that you'll win the division again, and make up for last years embarassment against the Tigers. But what happens? You finish dead last, have the worst record in baseball, while we'll be sipping champagne celebrating our World Series win, which will be the first of our 15 straight World Series wins, 14 of them being with Albert Pujols, who the Cards will trade to us after next season for someone like Chris Woodward. Pujols will be a nice compliment to the other 7 best positiopn players in baseball, and of course we'll also have Carpentar, who'll make a nice compliment to the best 4 starters in baseball, and we'll probably have Wainwright to, who will... you guessed it!... be a nice compliment to the 5 or 6 best relievers in baseball. So I hope you enjoy your team being mediocre and lucky, because soon, they'll be a pathetic excuse for a team.

DETROIT IN THE WORLD SERIES!!CURSE OF KEITH HERNANDEZ!!

and, of course,

METS IN 2007!!! ALL THE WAY!!

And so you Card fans won't go saying "Of course the Met fans would do that," the only reason I wrote that, and would ever think about writing that, is because the Cards have been treating the Mets like nothing but ****. First theres Pujols, saying Glavine wasn't good at all. Were we saying Suppan wasn't good at all? No. Than he ran to first himself when Cliffy was running down. What the **** was that about? You're supposed to throw it to the pitcher when you're that far away from the bag. Thta was completely showing up Cliff. Every bit of respect I had for Pujols is gone. Than the Cards fans have been showing up at Mets blogs all this week, mocking us. Met fans wouldn't do that if we were the wons who won it. But the worst of all was the Cardinals doing the Jose chants during the celebrations. Why dont they celebrate on them going to the ****** World Series instead of mocking us. Bunch of no good ******* **** *******. Thats hy I wrote all of that.

Sounds like sour grapes to me. The Mets had a good year, just take pride in that.

By the way, the Cards just showed in Game 1 of the Series the result of underestimating them.
